What I Did Today/Recently
Everything I've done lately was for Citizenship.Located a copy of The Regime of the Brother and started reading it. It is not as useful as I hoped, primarily because it relies on a lot of psychoanalysis stuff that I 1) don't fully understand, and 2) don't want to get into when I'm delivering a conference talk that ISN'T on psychoanalysis. I'm going to work my way through the introduction and maybe another context chapter, but her case studies are all literature examples and useless to me anyway.
The book did point me toward another book called Women and Citizenship. Wayne State has a copy, so I'm going to drive down tomorrow and take a look at that.
I spoke to my mentor a little bit ago about using the Technician article in my talk. She indicated that I should clear that with Student Life, so now that goes on my to-so list as well. In the meantime, I did a search for "IPS" and found quite a few other potential sources. Some of them are forum or Twitter posts, so I can only use them as examples. But one or two seemed to be written by professionals. I'll need to sort through those sometime soon.
The last two weekends have been completely taken up with family obligations, and I feel like I'm behind in everything. My to-do lists keep getting longer because I can't get anything finished and crossed off! Hopefully this weekend I'll get some time to work.
Next Steps
- (STILL) Re-read Chapter 1 of Azoulay.
- Finish The Regime of the Brother
- Start reading Women & Citizenship for Citizenship
- Sort through my various internet sources for Citizenship
- Keep thinking about how to approach the Thomas Watson panel.
- (STILL) Print the Arab Spring chapter and do a markup of what's worth keeping and what has to be fixed.
